Y'all. There is NEW yarn at Michaels and I am here for it!

I went to my local Michaels in search of the elusive Sweet Snuggles Skinny yarn but it wasn't in stock yet. But the lable was there. The staff had no idea when it was coming in. Alas.

Michaels is overhauling their stock

As of writing Michaels is going through a major rehaul of their products. Lots of the Caron brand yarn is being heavily discounted and being replaced with Michael's own brand: Loops & Threads.

I was about to leave the store but what do my eyes see? A cotton/acrylic blend yarn! This was BIG. Cotton/acyrlic blends are my favourite yarn to work with but there are so few on the market! It has the perfect level of strength and squish. It's not scratchy like acrylic yarn. It's much softer than cotton yarn.

The Details

  • 50% cotton and 50% acrylic

  • 85g skeins with 119 m

  • Bulky (5) weight

  • Recomended crochet hook 6.5 mm

  • 12 variegated colourways

  • 9 corresoponding solid colourways

Pros

  • gorgeous colourways

  • slides over metal crochet hooks

  • super squishy

  • works up fast

Cons

  • high price point

  • a little splitty

Overall, this is a great yarn that fits an open spot in the market place. I can't think of another bulky cotton/acrylic blend yarn that is easily accessible in Canada.

I absolutely LOVE the colours and it's so smooth to crochet with. I am so impressed with how the colours pooled. I could see this being an amazing option for chunky hats, headbands and bags. It's a costly yarn so I wouldn't make a blanket with it personally.

It's perfect for making small makes quickly. For example, you could crochet this yarn into an egg for easter and the colourways would really shine!

In fact...

Would you use this yarn? What would you make with this new yarn?

By my calculations I'll be able to get 9 eggs out of each skein which is great! In this case the colour options will win over the high price point for me.
